The Augusta GreenJackets are a Single-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, competing in the Carolina League of Minor League Baseball. Their home field is SRP Park, located in North Augusta, South Carolina. The franchise first took the field in 1988 as the Augusta Pirates, a South Atlantic League club formed when the Macon Pirates relocated to Augusta, Georgia. Following the 1993 season, the team changed its name to the GreenJackets. The 2021 minor league restructuring shifted the team into the Carolina League.
The club’s roots trace back to the Macon Pirates, whose ownership moved the team to Augusta after the 1987 season due to low attendance. From 1988 through 2020, Augusta played in the South Atlantic League. Before the San Francisco Giants became the parent club after the 2004 season, the GreenJackets were part of the Boston Red Sox organization. The Red Sox had replaced the Pittsburgh Pirates as Augusta’s affiliate, and the partnership yielded immediate results: the GreenJackets won the South Atlantic League championship in their debut season as a Red Sox farm team.
The 2020 season was canceled for Augusta and all of Minor League Baseball because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the 2021 reorganization, the Atlanta Braves invited the GreenJackets to become their Low-A affiliate in the newly formed Low-A East. That circuit was renamed the Carolina League in 2022, returning to its historical name, and was reclassified as Single-A.
